Hackney Council is the latest local authority to use RingGo’s award winning Emissions Based Parking to positively influence emissions. The Council has from today (3 April 2023) started charging variable parking charges based on the emissions of the vehicle being parked.
Petrol vehicles made before 2005 and diesel vehicles older than 2015 pay the most to park. Zero emission vehicles pay the least. The aim of the scheme is to improve air quality and help towards the Council’s ongoing sustainability goals.
Hackney Council’s decision is part of a five-year strategy which focuses on the health of residents and creating more sustainable streets. The new charging structure follows a 13-week consultation period and three week in-depth listening exercise, in which more than 8,000 people provided views.
Emissions Based Parking is now widely available across much of central London, helping to influence traffic and transport choices.
First developed and launched in 2009, RingGo’s world leading solution has won multiple UK and international awards.
